Steam Engine "Edenbridge"

|
The locomotive "Edenbridge". The
railway came to Edenbridge in May 1842, the first line running from
Redhill to Tonbridge and a short while later extended to Folkestone
(1843) and Dover (1844). Some 44 years after its completion a
north-south route was opened by the London Brighton and South Coast
Railway and Edenbridge gained a second station closer to the town centre
originally named Edenbridge but there was already one by the same name -
most confusing! Eight years after opening the suffix "Town" was added.
One of many historic images held at the museum, copies of which can be purchased subject to terms available from the curator. |
